Meet the Bakers behind this collaboration

YVR prep.png

Hello! We are Nawel, Christine, Catherine and Jenny. Four local bakers, entrepreneurs and small business owners. We met while baking at our YVR Prep Commissary kitchen. After spending many long hours in the pastry kitchen sharing tips, stories and baked goods we thought it would be a fun idea to create a carefully curated holiday box for you to share, gift or enjoy.

Thanks for stopping by!

Meet Nawel! Owner of Nawel's French Patisserie.

Hailing from the Hautes-Pyrénées in the southwest of France, decided to pursue her lifelong passion for pastry and culinary arts after a successful career as a translator and interpreter in France and Spain. Together with her partner, she moved to Quebec city to attend a rigorous French pastry training program at the prestigious Ecole Hôtelière de la Capitale, where she gained invaluable experience working in several pastry shops and cafés, such as Chez Boulay, Comptoir Boréal, a well-known restaurant, specializing in local products from Quebec.

Seeking to expand her knowledge and expertise, she relocated to Vancouver, where she further refined her skills and crafted new recipes. Due to her discerning palate and inspired by the city’s healthy lifestyle, she found her own style of pastry, offering lighter products, focused on flavors, natural ingredients and natural sugar alternatives.

Being naturally inquisitive, she is continually on the hunt for novel flavor combinations. She draws her inspiration from contemporary French pastry and her cultural roots in Morocco and France, two countries renowned for their exceptional culinary traditions.

Meet Christine! Owner of Chickadee Chocolate

Christine was born and raised in Vancouver. With over a decade of pastry experience, she has honed her sweet skills at institutions such as Chambar, Faubourg, Chocolate Arts, and The Hart House, as well as Raymond’s in St. Johns.

Her vision for Chickadee is to bring fresh, handmade confections to the city she loves while working with her talented friends who help design, photograph, and build Chickadee.

Chef Christine is a big fan of sugar, alliteration, and birds.

The black-capped chickadee has always been a favourite of hers: ubiquitous in the Pacific Northwest, vocal, bold, always on the move, and very food motivated (it’s no wonder she feels a kinship)!

When Christine isn’t in the kitchen she can often be found biking, hiking, or birding in our great outdoors.

Meet Catherine! Co-owner of Whisked Away

CEO, Globetrotter & Cookie Lover

At the heart of Whisked Away is a dynamic duo—our CEO (a fancy title for someone who wears all the hats) and the mastermind behind our delicious treats. With a background in hospitality and years of traveling the world, I always knew my journey would lead to something big and creative. That’s how Whisked Away was born—a dream turned into reality.

Here’s a little about me: riding a bike is still on my to-do list, I’ve been lucky enough to live in five different countries, and my love for cookies? Well, it’s limitless!

Every batch we bake is filled with love and joy, capturing the essence of those special, sweet moments.

Meet Jenny! Owner of Jenny Bakes

I started baking after discovering that my son had a life threatening peanut allergy. Being constantly worried about what store bought treats and cakes might have, encouraged me to learn how to make our own. Originally from Mexico I try to incorporate a little bit of my culture in my flavour profiles.

I love designing and creating every cake and cookie. Everything is made with only the highest quality ingredients, from scratch and peanut free.
